On masks and creating a new reality

Have you given any thought to how you created this reality we are living now, where we all wear masks?

Because you did. I did. We did.

The joy of being intuitive and living a conscious, intentional life is that we realize we are the creators of our reality. Even when the reality we are experiencing isn’t something we like.

And the power in this wisdom is that we can self-reflect and then find the hidden desire, so we can create more deliberately.

It has taken me a while to get to this point. I’ve been carried along with the stream of life; feeling alarmed, mystified, saddened, and in many ways a passive participant, if not a quiet victim to the life we are all living now - masks-required.

I’m tired of this. I’d prefer a different reality.

And when we want a new reality we have to get clear on what we want instead, and then start seeing it be birthed through the existing reality.

This is not an easy thing to do. Right? Manifesting through an unwanted or unpleasant experience is challenging. We all know it. And yet, we also know that when we hit it right, it works.

So let me tell you a new story. A story that helps me, and hopefully helps you, create a new reality.

We have a world of people wearing masks to protect themselves, and keep themselves safe. To keep others safe. We are concerned that even the breath we breathe is dangerous to our health and wellbeing.

That’s interesting, isn’t it, when I remember growing up being taught how I needed to remake myself to be accepted, to be successful, to get a good grade, to get a job.

I was taught not to be me. I was taught to behave a certain way, to say the right things, to dress a certain way. In essence, I was taught to put on a mask to survive and excel in the world.

If not, I was told I’d be rejected, ostracized, homeless, jobless, friendless. I learned that I would not be well or do well by being myself, following my joy.

This is the world I grew up in. Most of us have.

We grew up learning to wear masks. Because who we were was not enough. Because the consequences of being ourselves emotionally, psychically and physically would result in horrible things. Truly our reptilian brain would equate those feelings with a danger equal to death.

Now we are living in a world where we physically wear masks. Because the consequences of simply being(breathing) could result in horrible things.

In this way, I can see how I created this reality.

I didn’t want to not be me, and I found every way I could to push against the collective expectation. Even so, I still put on a mask to be something more acceptable, even with my own ways of rebellion. Because being all of me was dangerous - to myself and others.

We are here not because of a virus. Saying so distances us from our power, and it makes us a victim.

We are powerful creators, with a limited time on this planet to express the full potential of our heart, joy and creativity.

Here’s the gift of manifesting this current "life-with-a-physical-mask" reality.

We are being forced to know who. we. really. are.

To know our own truth, because the external world is not in agreement.

To know how we want to live our life, because the way we used to live has spun into something we never envisioned possible.

To know what matters to us - a free life, a safe life, a connected life, a life of wellbeing. For people and the planet.

To know how to be ourselves, to know what matters and still honor our neighbor.

To know that our bodies are strong, that our immune system works as much as we support it, and to know we can create the means to help when it’s needed.

To know that we are creative beings, and we flourish in the ever-changing landscape of Earth.

We are slowly and deliberately, individually and collectively, figuring all of this out.

How we want schools to work. How we want our supporting institutions (governments) to serve us. How we want workplaces to respect us and consider the actual realities of working and raising a family.

We are realizing, individually and within institutions like governments and corporations, that what we once believed, in so many areas, was not true.

Each of us, as we are, are strong, resilient, creative beings seeking the freedom to be ourselves, and express ourselves into the world to make it a better place.

This moment in time is giving us, globally, the opportunity reclaim that knowing.

Take a look and you’ll see…

Strangers wearing a mask to make sure their neighbor is safe, just in case they have a compromised immune system.

Schools (educational institutions) creating options to respond to the wide variety of options requested by parents.

Businesses modifying their practices and policies to continue to provide services, and employ people.

Workplaces adjusting expectations to meet the needs of parents at home with kids.

It’s not perfect. No.

But there is beauty blooming. There is creativity expressing. There is consideration being extended. There are more people well than are not. There is care of our neighbor because we are all in this together.

Things that seemed impossible, both bad and good, are showing themselves as possible.

This is what I want more of. Expanded possibilities that support us in allowing everyone to BE the creative, loving, healthy, safe, joyous expression of who they are.

The physical masks will come off someday. Will yours?
